The case has been solved! Have you been reading the latest Charles Splints case?

The story I did prior gets referenced a bit in the beginning. So make sure to check out East Ave first. It’s a short story with five short chapters. Here’s a brief description:

A note is left at the door by quick footsteps containing an address. Splints follows it to learn there’s more than just crime bosses and thieves in Brooksend, but the supernatural as well.

Charles Splints is an aging detective kicked from the force years ago. The people of Brooksend still know he’s the one to turn to when they have a case, so he keeps his office open just in case a beautiful woman walks in looking for a cup of coffee. (First appearance: Blissfire) Read more ›

Part 4

A Charles Splints Case

By Dan Leicht

Chapter 20:

We entered into the pitch black building. The door handle was locked, but Splints repeatedly slammed his shoulder into it until he made it through.

“Splints, wait.”

“What is it, kid?”

“I have an idea, something we should say if we’re able to contact the mothership.”

“When we contact the mothership you mean.”

After making our way through the first floor we traveled up the stairs to patrol the second, then the third, eventually making our way up to the tenth. While the other floors were empty we could hear the tenth bustling with activity as we made our way up from the ninth floor through the stairwell. We could hear the the feet of dozens of dobbleganers going up and down the hallway. I wasn’t sure what we were going to have to do in order to get through, but I new Splints had an idea. I tried to concentrate and think like him to see if I could match wits with the city’s best.  Read more ›

Charles Splints Takes On Park Ave

The final chapter to the Park Ave series is coming this Friday! It’s been a long journey to reach this point. This story started out as another average Splints case, but soon evolved into an even wilder tale than the East Ave story I wrote. The Park Ave story started out with the same idea in regards to length as East Ave, which was five chapters, but soon turned into a two part, then a three part, and ultimately a four part series. As the story progressed things kept getting weirder, but I just let it ride… it was really fun to play with this story. You can check out the first chapter to the Park Ave series HERE.

You can check out the first 3 parts to the Park Ave series for free via Smashwords! This story will also be making its way to Kindle – so look out for that in the near future!

You can also grab the Charles Splints case “East Ave” for FREE on both platforms as well! Check out this case and see how Splints deals with the supernatural for the first time.

Chapter 19:

A Charles Splints Case

By Dan Leicht

pablo-charles-ch19

“How’d you know about the ship up in the sky? I haven’t mentioned that you to yet,” I asked.

“You can’t keep your eyes off the damn thing. The camouflage is good, but still flickers every once in a while. I’ve been staring up at the sky since I was a kid, and the damn thing only flickers when you mix the wrong prescriptions. I’ve been drinking coffee all day so I know that’s not the case. Any ideas on how to get your friends to venture back into space and look for another planet, perhaps one with a vacancy?” Read more ›

Caroline would often visit the place where she had her first kiss. She was seventeen and it was by the lighthouse near the lake. The lighthouse was old, the door always locked. It hadn’t been used in years, but the scenery surrounding it was beautiful. Each year someone would visit the lighthouse and plant flowers all around it, white daises, red roses, and bright pink carnations. Caroline visited most often in early May when she knew the flowers would first start appearing. She wanted to thank whoever it was that planted them each year. Read more ›

Jillian Thompson took her first steps at the age of two and her last at the age of seventy-six. Her father worked as a baker until retiring in his seventies. Her mother was a stay at home mom and helped to raise her and her brother Bradley while her father often worked double shifts. It was on her twentieth birthday that she finally had enough money to afford her own car, a red convertible she’d bought from the neighbor across the street. It was a “classic” from the eighties and lasted her a good five years before she had to trade it in for a mini-van when her son reached three. She’d met a boy while attending college and within a year they were married.  Read more ›

“There’s a chance you could maybe get custody a few days a month, Ted. I wouldn’t give my hopes up though if I were you. Your record certainly isn’t the best.”

“Those offenses were in my teenage years, Glecko.”

“You’re paying me enough, call me John.”

“Glecko. Do what you can. A few days a month is better than nothing, but I know she’ll be better off with me than Nancy.” Read more ›

She’d been working on the puzzle for months, unaware that a few of the pieces were missing. Every day after lunch she’d head to her room and sit in her favorite chair, pull up close to the table and stare down at the array of sky colored pieces. A couple hours before dinner time Janis would knock on her door to ask what she’d like to eat. She ordered the same dinner every day, always mashed potatoes with butter, no gravy, with a side of steamed green peppers.

“Stella, what would you like for dinner tonight?” Read more ›

She watched as he approached the step leading to the kitchen from the family room. To her it was never a thought, a quick raise of a foot and before she knew it the other was over too. For him though, at the age of two, it looked like Everest. He grabbed the top of the step and heaved one leg over before rolling his entire body over and onto the tiled kitchen floor. Once in the kitchen he began to run frantically around the house shouting in shear joy. To her it just looked like madness, but in his eyes he was hundreds of feet tall, leaping over his toy cars like a giant rampaging through a town. She picked him up and put him in his high chair at the table.  Read more ›
